Should we forgive people even when their intentions were harmful?!

To forgive or not to forgive?

What is the importance of forgiveness? Why are we taught to forgive an offense but do not EVER forget an offense? We can save that memory on our mental hard drive, but we shouldn’t punish a person for their wrongdoings against us!

forgive (v.)

Old English forgiefan “give, grant, allow; remit (a debt), pardon (an offense)….The sense of “to give up desire or power to punish.”

A synonym of forgiveness is exoneration, which means to release someone from a duty or obligation.

Many say unforgiveness is like a poison that pollutes our spirit. I must say, I do not disagree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. However, I wanted to throw somewhat of a twist on this idea of forgiveness so that we can look deeper into what forgiveness actually consists of for the granter.
