*Only available to civilian spouses of an ACTIVE DUTY member or activated Reserve members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, 01-02.*
A lot of civilian military spouses are unaware of the MYCAA scholarship. It is a $4000 scholarship eligible spouses can use towards an approved education program, training, and licenses. You can set up an account through MySECO. Representatives will walk you through every step of the scholarship application process.
Even better, through MySECO, spouses can search for employment using the career portal! How great is that!
This scholarship may be used towards a degree plan OR, for those who do not have a passion for a 2-4 year college education, six-month video-based training courses for spouses interested in pursuing a career in the Healthcare or IT industry.
MedCerts offers various programs such as:
- Dental Assistant
- Sterile Processing Technician
- Behavior Technician Specialist
- IT Security Specialist
- Ethical Hacker
- Medical Assistant with Clinical Externship
- Pharmacy Technician (including externship)
- Allied Healthcare Professional
- Medical Front Office & Electronic Health Records Program
- Electronic Health Records
- Medical Billing Specialist
- IT Network Technician
- Healthcare IT Technician
- Professional Coder
*Certifications function as continuing education, and do not lead to an academic degree.*
When I became a civilian spouse, I was able to use this program to gain certification as an Electronic Health Records and Reimbursement Specialist. It was a six-month program that only took me three months to complete. You will be able to study at a comfortable pace as long as you finish before the deadline. Some programs listed above are only 3 months in duration. This program is no gimmick!
This is a practically-free program funded by the government and offered through Fisk University and fully supported by competent instructors and advisors.
A nationwide agreement has also been reached with companies like Walgreens, to give students an upper-hand when preparing for the Pharmacy Technician exam. The Walgreens Externship established a partnership with Fisk University to provide students further extensive training from the best pharmacists in the industry.
Remember, this is only available to civilian spouses of an ACTIVE DUTY member or activated Reserve members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, 01-02. Spouse must complete coursework while his or her military sponsor is on Title 10 military orders as reported in DEERS.
Because eligibility requirements change, you can always double check with an advisor to see if you qualify.
